Restoration:

Archaeological materials

With time, archaeological metal materials lose their primary properties: hardness, elasticity and structure. It is imperative to find and preserve the original item surface to the best of the abilities, on which various authentic decoration and organic remains can be found. These decorations and remains can be the key elements in determining its origin and age. The modern conservation of archaeological material made the restoration using the chemical methods obsolete, since those methods could damage the original item surface and sometimes even destroy the item itself because of the limited ability to control the restoration process. For these reasons, the precise mechanical-abrasive method of treatment was developed, which makes the processing of the archaeological materials safer. Conservation was also adjusted to the archaeological materials; it now uses reversible agents upon item conservation.
